The Office of Equity and Compliance processes complaints of violations of Title IX and Title VII and conducts investigations. This includes complaints of gender-based violence, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking; sexual harassment; discrimination based on race color, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex sexual orientation including gender identity, marital status, age, physical or mental disability, military status, unfavorable discharge from the military service, or veteran's status; and retaliation.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provide beneficial services to SIU students such as Crisis Walk-in counseling, therapy groups, individual and couples counseling. CAPS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc. (IACS) and the American Psychological Association (APA).

The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety provides comprehensive public safety services for a nationally ranked higher education institution. The Survivor Empowerment Center (formerly The Women's Center) is a community-based domestic violence and sexual assault crisis center.
